Altenew Academy – Watercolor Basics and Beyond
Hello friends and thank you for joining me today. This was a class that I was equally excited for and terrified of! I love watching other people do no-line watercolor, but I had never attempted it before.
I started with a piece of Altenew watercolor cardstock. I stamped the image from Statement Flowers in Altenew Buttercream crisp dye ink. I did use my Misti so I could stamp it twice for a good impression since I would be doing no-line watercoloring. I wanted to make sure I could see all of the lines well enough to paint my individual petals/leaves.
For this project I decided to use my Altenew 36 Pan Watercolor Set. Altenew has many beautiful watercolor sets, including a metallic set. However, I have the most experience using this set and feel most comfortable with it. I used the following inks to color my image: Cotton Candy, Frayed Leaf, Forest Glades, Ocean Waves and Industrial Diamond. I love the ink wells all have the names on the bottom of the well in case you like to keep them in a certain order.
I then got to coloring! This was my first time doing a no-line watercoloring, so I was super, super nervous! I was really happy with how it came out at the end. My main tip would be not to try to add all the color at once. I am really heavy handed with any painting or ink blending, so this is a challenge for me. I really enjoyed the process of no-line watercoloring and wish I had not avoided it for so long!!!! I put on Netflix and painted. It was a very relaxing process for me.
I the struggled with what to do with my colored image. I decided I wanted to die-cut the image and adhered it with Altenew Glue Tape to an Altenew Spicy Yogurt card base. The spicy yogurt card stock added that extra little touch without pulling away from my colored image. Before adhering the image I used Altenew Sincere Greetings for the “happy birthday” sentiment. I stamped the sentiment in Industrial Diamond to mimic the color in the center of the open flower.
